There is a big difference when the mind controls you meaning when thoughts and memories come and you let your emotions take over without taking control of the thought and memory and letting go. If it serves you no purpose and brings out negative emotions just let it go. If it serves you purpose then hold onto the memory if it brings positive emotions and thoughts that you can then turn into inspiration or visualise.
We all do plan thinking of our day or week which is organised thinking however when you get negative thoughts and memories, then clean on the memory by letting go and I do this with the Hawaiian clearing method of Ho’oponopono which is my step 1 of the 7 step clearing the mind Yanni mindful masterclass, and just clear the memory or bring yourself to inner peace if thoughts are overtaking your mind with the4 WORD MANTRA of I AM SORRY, PLEASE FORGIVE ME, I THANK YOU, I LOVE YOU and you will feel the difference. You can do as long and as many times as you wish.
So take control of your mind instead of letting the mind take control of you.
